Albert Seixas Santos was born in 1936, in Lisbon. He studied history and philosophy at the university of Lisbon. Lived in Paris in 1962 and went the following year to London where he studied at the London School of Film Technique. He worked has a film critic between 1958 and 1970 for several portuguese newspapers and magazines. Brandos Costumes, his first feature film participates in the Festival of Berlin, in 1975. In 1977, he was appointed President of the Portuguese Institute for Cinema. 1977 is also the year of the collective film A Lei da Terra, shown at the Festival of Leipzig. Between 1980 and 2002, he taught at the Superior School of Theatre and Cinema (ESTC). In 1982, his feature film Gestos e Fragmentos participates in the Festival of Venice. He is appointed director of programs in the portuguese public TV network (RTP) in 1985. In 1992, he directs the feature film Paraíso Perdido, shown at the Festival of Brussels. 1999 is the year of the feature Mal, also screened at the Festival of Venice. Alberto Seixas Santos has just finished directing the short film A Rapariga da Mão Morta. |
