WELT SPIEGEL KINO shows a picture of the world as it is handed down to us in moving images; contradictory, suspenseful, trusting in the power of the images, without commentary. The selected places, characters, and films are not related to each other. There is no direct link between the parallel shown individual three episodes in terms of location, content, or time. They are cinema (hi)stories as we have found them in the film archives: erratic, accidental, and surprising.

FILM IST.(1-12) is intended to be an artistic contribution to the discourse about those questions arising from dealing with a deeper understanding of the way optical-acoustic media work. As a work in progress the project approaches the principles which lie at the foundation of the media film. It does not claim to be a theoretical work but tries, on the basis of a long engagement with the material, to track down some of the “building blocks” of perception and some of the effects of moving images. The DVD installation – as a non-linear method of access – enables an extended consideration of these “building blocks” of the visual language.

ODYSSEY TODAY views the present-day manifold forms of “being on the move“, in a time which is characterized equally by great refugee movements and tourist currents, as by the international transfer of goods and the virtual journeys of the “New Nomad Generation“, whose home is the Internet. ODYSSEY TODAY is a virtual trip through artistic interpretations of the theme, which are assembled together in an imaginary “Travel Art Archive“.

MARIAGE BLANC is the name in Morocco for a mock marriage between a Moroccan man and an European woman, for the purpose of gaining a residence permit, and consequently the nationality of a European country. MARIAGE BLANC centres on the theme of this kind of attempted Immigration, and is reality and fiction simultaneously for Mustafa Tabbou: he offers himself as willing to marry, in every language of the European Community.

International Transmission ending shows the last 10 seconds of TV programmes, and the following transmission endings of 48 TV stations from 20 countries, all over the world. Television controls and determins decisive the live-rhythm of the population all over the world. Together with the transmission ends the day of the TV watchers.The last pictures belong to the national identity: flags, landscapes, buildings, take TV watchers back home, accompanied by national anthems. The next pictures are pictures of dreams. The white rush on the TV screen is the dreamless sleep.
