(Live from Vila do Conde’s Mother Church Clock, 2008)

Images and sounds from the mechanism of the clock of the Vila do Conde’s Mother Church were brought to Solar de S. Roque by video and sound cables over 300 metres long, a live broadcast of multiple projections presented in various locations within this venue. The main focus of this exhibition, the old clock, which had been derelict and inactive for many decades (since the installation of an electrical system), was completely restored and is currently functioning in the church’s tower This live broadcast was not recorded in video so the images displayed and the sounds that accompany it were presented in real time.

João Penalva Vídeos 1998-2007 The parallel programme to the exhibition included a set of videos made over the last decade such as O Sineiro, O Rouxinol Branco and O Rugir de Leões which will be presented in Portugal for the first time, with Portuguese subtitles. The two sessions were exhibited at Auditório de Serralves, Cinemateca Portuguesa and Auditório Municipal de Vila do Conde.
